What 'quality' means for specific use cases

To make this concrete, here is what the quality requirements actually look like for several common professional use cases. Notice how different they are.

Product photography

For ecommerce product photography, quality means: the product is rendered accurately enough that a customer who receives the physical item is not surprised by the difference. Specifically: correct material rendering (the leather looks like the actual leather), correct color (the green is the brand-specified green), correct proportions (the laptop is the right thickness), and a neutral background that does not distract from the product. Stylistic distinctiveness is irrelevant or actively unwanted, you want the product to look like itself, not like an artistic interpretation of itself. Photorealism, prompt adherence, and coherence matter enormously. The right models for this work are FLUX pro, Imagen 4, and the specialized e-commerce variants of Seedream.

Editorial illustration

For editorial illustration accompanying a magazine article or blog post, quality means: the image has a clear visual idea that supports the article, has aesthetic distinctiveness that makes it memorable, and works at the publication's typical layout sizes. Photorealism is often unwanted, too photorealistic and the image stops looking like illustration and starts looking like stock photography. Stylistic distinctiveness is the most important dimension. Prompt adherence matters because the editorial concept needs to come through. The right models are Midjourney, FLUX with style LoRAs, and Recraft (which has good design-aware output).

Brand campaign assets

For a brand running an advertising campaign, quality means: the images look like they were art-directed by humans, have a consistent visual identity across the entire campaign (so they look like they belong together), avoid the 'AI tells' that make customers feel like they were generated, and pass the brand's legal and content safety review. Photorealism, stylistic consistency across many images, and the ability to do specific aesthetic direction matter most. Coherence matters because any anatomical or physical glitch will be picked up by reviewers. Cost and speed are secondary, the campaign produces dozens or hundreds of images, not millions. The right approach is usually: a base model (FLUX or Imagen) plus a custom-trained brand Low-Rank Adaptation (LoRA) plus manual curation and inpainting at the end.

Concept art for film and games

For concept art that supports film and game pre-production, quality means: the image conveys an idea quickly enough to be useful in a creative meeting, has enough specificity that the production team can build from it, and does not lock in choices that should remain open. Speed and prompt adherence matter most, you are iterating fast and exploring many options. Photorealism is sometimes wanted (for a final pitch board) and sometimes unwanted (for early sketches that should feel rough). Stylistic distinctiveness matters because concept art has a particular tradition of feeling 'painterly' rather than photographic. The right models are Midjourney, Krea, and FLUX with concept-art LoRAs.

Social media content

For organic social content produced by a creator or brand for engagement, quality means: the image stops the scroll, fits the platform's aesthetic conventions, and is on-brand for the creator. The bar for technical quality is lower than for advertising, small glitches are forgiven if the overall image is striking. Stylistic distinctiveness and emotional register matter most. Cost matters because volume is high. Speed matters because creators iterate rapidly. The right approach is usually a fast model (FLUX schnell, Krea) with a strong creator-trained style LoRA.

Architectural visualization

For architectural rendering, quality means: spatial accuracy (the proportions match the actual building), material specificity (the cladding looks like the actual cladding), and lighting realism (the way light interacts with surfaces is plausible). This is the use case where photorealism and physical coherence matter most, and where most general-purpose models fail. Specialized tools (Veras, MNML, and other arch-viz-specific platforms) outperform generic models here because they understand the domain. The right approach is usually a specialized tool, or a fine-tuned model on architectural data.
